I’m sick! But it led to a beautiful sight.

Ugghh. Iv’e been sick for the past five days now. Last weekend I had high hopes of getting a ton of writing done. HAH!
I slept all weekend.
Monday I went to work, made it half a day and called it quits. I’ve been working the rest of the week, but not happily, lol. And don’t think my co-workers haven’t had to put up with my whining. Although, since I sound like a drowning frog, they probably can’t hear me too well. No sympathy, I tell ya.
So, I’ve been going home from work and heading right to bed. And, please don’t feel too bad for the husband, he’s been eating supper at his mommy’s. Anyway, last night I woke up at 9pm. Just in time to watch NCIS LA.
Did any of you watch that one? They had a girl buried alive in a box underground. I wish I could remember the name of the Romantic Suspense I read a year or so ago that had the same thing, it’s driving me crazy.
Anyway, since I’d slept from 5p-9p I wasn’t tired so after NCIS LA I watched Chopped on the Food Network, love that show, then headed up to bed and downed some Nyquil.
While waiting for the effects of the Nyquil to kick in I was flipping through the channels and found the coverage of the rescue effort for the 33 miners trapped in Chili.
Sixty-nine days down there. Unimaginable! But, miracles happen and they were bringing the first of the 33 up to the surface.
They had a shot of his wife and son, waiting there to great him and I swear as I type this, I’m bawling again.
As soon as the top of that capsule was in sight the little boy cried out for his father. It seemed like forever, but they finally had him out and in seconds flat he had his arms around his wife and little boy. Such a beautiful sight. I don’t believe I will ever forget that little boy’s face.

This morning I think they have thirteen or fourteen out now. How wonderful!!! Makes my sore throat and stuffy head seem like pretty petty stuff.

  1. I haven’t watched it, but I’ve seen a couple of pics online. I wouldn’t be able to watch without crying so…

    Get well soon, Deb!

  2. Things like seeing the father rescued, and the little boy’s excitement do make your day.
Well, I sure hope you feel better, lady!

  3. I can’t believe you managed to squeeze two stories into this post that made me go cold and clammy all over. I’m extremely claustrophobic, so the idea of being buried alive, let alone trapped down a mine, is my worst nightmare! Wonderful news about the miners, though. After such a long time, they must have wondered if they’d ever see daylight again.

I thought Criminal Minds had some creepy topics, but NCIS LA did last night. Then to flip the channel and see the rescue going on…talk about having a moment. I read a Romantic Suspense about a seriel killer who buried his victims alive, almost want to say it was an Allison Brennen book, but I’ll be darned if I can remember. It’s bugging me now.

      • I know which book you may mean, but I can’t think of the bloody title either. Did he leave them a torch, and the women had to use it sparingly in case the battery ran out? And he fed them through a pipe in the top?

  4. I watched that too and I don’t know how anyone could see that and not cry. Very moving sight. I’m soooo sorry you’ve been sick. Seems sometimes that crap lingers forever and is so damn draining.

Wasn’t that something. I’ll forever hear and see that little boys face.

  5. I was so happy that they could finally start getting those men out of there! I couldn’t imagine being underground for so long. And to come up a hole like that? What was it, a mile or something crazy like that? And they’d all remained so positive. That really says something about them and their families.

Hope you’re feeling better, girl! Take care! Hugs!! 🙂

2 thousand some odd feet below the ground. Can you imagine? I couldn’t, I’d freak out, lol.

I can speak now, but Renee keeps telling me I sound like a man, lol.

  6. Debbie, I sat and watched the first miner come up last night and cried like a baby. Watched again this morning too. Same as you, I wondered how they felt finally being rescued, finally seeing the light of day, smelling fresh air. After sixty-nine days underground it would take lots of faith not to give up, or to go crazy. And all the countries coming together to map out a plan to rescue these guys was an awesome feat. Did you see where they interviewed the guy from Denver who operates the crane bringing the capsule up and down?

I’m praying the equipment holds out and that all the miners are brought back home to their families.

  7. Oh Deb. Glad you’re better, hon. I know you’ve been sick as hell.

I have been so bogged down with family and trying to get things done on the Net that I’ve been out of the loop on the miners. But I read this morning they rescue had begun. I sooo wish I’d seen that pic of his little boy crying out for his daddy. It had to be the most incredibly heart-warming moment ever. I’d have bawled too, hon. Thanks for sharing. And go back to bed and get some more rest too. I’m going to bed early myself last night. Still not over my sinus infection. sighhhh

YES, Nat! That is the story. So what is it’s name and who wrote it? lol.

    • I haven’t gotten to see anymore than just about a five-minute update early this morning. I think it’s incredible that those men have been trapped for so long and have survived. Someone has sure been keeping them in the palm of His hand.

      • I’m referring to the book, Deb. The reply thing on here went a bit wonky. 🙂

  10. Things like that always make it so much easier to appreciate our good fortune, don’t they? I hope all the miner got out safely.

    October 14, 2010 at 5:15

    • They did all make it out. Some are still in the hospital, but all are going to be fine, physically anyway.
